This year’s celebration featured a fun superhero theme that perfectly reflected the everyday heroics of our maintenance teams. Communities kicked off the week by decorating their leasing offices with superhero-inspired decor and stocking up on their favorite snacks and beverages to keep them energized throughout the week — including some delicious homemade banana chocolate muffins for some! Team members were also treated to catered lunches and thoughtful gifts as tokens of appreciation for all they do. To wrap up the celebration, teams enjoyed exciting outings that included bowling, TopGolf, minor league baseball games, and go-kart racing.

Our Maintenance Teams are a vital part of NALS’s success, and we are incredibly grateful for the passion, hard work, and care they bring to our communities every single day. A few of the many highlights include:

The Pinnacle Highland team from Cottonwood Heights, UT, volunteered at Tiny Tim’s Foundation for Kids to build wooden toy cars. This organization creates toys, clothing, blankets, hygiene kits, and school kits that are distributed to children in need around the world.

Three of our Tucson, AZ communities, Finisterra, Sonoran Terraces, and The Legends at La Paloma, joined forces to volunteer at the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona. Together, they helped pack 5,523 food boxes for The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), which will be distributed across five counties in Southern Arizona.

The Pacific Northwest teams across Washington and Oregon contributed their time to Reclaiming Hope Ranch, an organization dedicated to children with a history of foster care and adoption. They provide a safe place for them to discover their gifts, values, and a sense of belonging through various ranch activities. Our teams had a fulfilling day of hard work on the Horse Care team, which included food preparation and cleaning the ranch.

The NALS HQ office also participated in a volunteer day at PATH. This organization offers an interim housing program serving individual men and women and providing access to 100 beds year-round. Our HQ team spent the day wrapping donated gifts, decorating the dining hall for the holiday season, and assisting with lunch service.
 

As we reflect on this week, we’re reminded of how worthwhile it is to come together in service of our communities. We are deeply grateful for the incredible organizations that welcomed us, guided us, and allowed us the opportunity to give back in a hands-on, impactful way. Our teams embraced Office Appreciation Week with full force! Offices were adorned with decorations all week — some even chose fun themes like the TV show Friends and Casino Royale, complete with a Casino Cafe filled with snacks and refreshments. Goody bags and gifts were curated for each one of the team members with cozy self-care kits, flowers, mugs, blankets, and their favorite coffee!

Alongside all the week-long festivities, each team enjoyed a well-deserved outing to show gratitude and appreciation for their hard work. The Vistas in Laughlin, NV traveled south to visit the Burros of Oatman where the population consists of more burros than people! Meanwhile, The Arbors team in Duluth, GA explored the Gwinnett County Fair and tasted all the delicacies it could offer, especially the funnel cake! Our team at View on Centennial in Colorado Springs, CO opted for a more relaxing day with pedicures. Other teams let off some steam in a rage room or by axe throwing, while the Pinnacle Highland team in Cottonwood Heights, UT were mind blown at the Museum of Illusions in Salt Lake City. The entire week was a time to honor the individuals who make up the wonderful teams in each of our communities.

NALS is thrilled to celebrate the dedication, compassion, and commitment of our onsite teams, not only this week but throughout the year. From the very first click of a prospective resident's online search, our leasing teams are there to support future residents every step of the way. They transform prospects into real-life happy residents, greeting them with open arms and big smiles during move-in day.

However, their dedication doesn't stop there. Once residents call NALS home, our leasing agents and assistant managers become their trusted neighbors. They're available to answer questions about the community, navigate any challenges that may arise, and even plan resident events for the community. They offer a listening ear, a helping hand, and a friendly face residents can rely on.

To celebrate these amazing team members, all week long, our community managers pulled out all the party tricks! Imagine desks adorned with personalized decorations, fridges stocked with team-favorite snacks, drinks, and ice creams, their favorite coffee drinks in the mornings, and goody baskets with gift cards and other personalized items!

And it wasn't just about treats! Some teams even got creative with fun activities like a DIY candle-making class that The Overlook at Interquest Apartments in Colorado Springs, CO participated in. At Towne Square Apartment Homes in Chandler, AZ, the celebration truly hit all the right notes with personalized playlists curated for each team member, a delectable donut and bagel bar, and heartwarming thank you notes signed by the entire maintenance team.

The week concluded with fun group outings! The New Mexico teams gathered together to channel their inner artist at a "Paint and Sip" event. Some teams enjoyed celebratory lunches at a local restaurant, while others enjoyed getting outside and going on hikes and exploring local attractions. It was a time for relaxation, laughter, and creating lasting memories with co-workers who have become like family.

The first morning of the conference, NALS Director of Maintenance and Regional Maintenance Managers held round table meetings with attendees on topics including: HVAC, mold remediation, make ready and preventive maintenance, PV-CPC repairs and glues, pool maintenance, and quality control. In addition to specific maintenance training, the Regional Maintenance Managers also led a session on the challenges of leadership later on in the week. With interactive activities throughout the meeting, Maintenance Supervisors were taught the importance of listening, communicating, and maintaining quality to demonstrate great leadership to their on-site teams.

The HQ Office had the honor of volunteering at PATH Santa Barbara, an interim housing facility that not only provides safe living spaces but also offers a range of essential services, including employment assistance and rapid rehousing. Team members spent the day preparing food, dishing out plates for the lunch service, and assembling hygiene kits to be given out to those in need.

As the NALS Volunteer Week came to an end, heartfelt stories and shared experiences reverberated within the walls of each office.
